Synapt G2 HDMS
The Bush Lab has a Waters Synapt G2 HDMS quadrupole/ion-mobility/time-of-flight hybrid mass spectrometer. In addition to the standard features, our Synapt G2 is equipped with ion/ion chemistry capabilities, a quadrupole mass filter capable of selecting precursor ions that have m/z of up to 32k, and a radio-frequency confining drift cell developed by our lab to accurately probe the shapes of protein complexes. This instrument enables the characterization of stoichiometry, subunit interactions, and shapes for heterogeneous, dynamic, and/or membrane-bound protein complexes that have masses of up to ~1 MDa.

Structures for Lossless Ion Manipulations
The Bush Lab develops novel ion mobility instruments that contain Structures for Lossless Ion Manipulation (SLIM) devices. SLIM devices are batch-fabricated printed circuits boards that contain planar electrodes for ion confinement and transmission. Individual SLIM boards are implemented as stacked-board pairs that are assembled into modular arrays that enable a variety of ion manipulations, including ion mobility-based separation, selection, and trapping. This instrument enables ion mobility mass spectrometry analysis of native-like proteins and protein complexes.

Other Resources
Members of the Bush Lab also uses instruments based at the UW Proteomics Resource, the Chemistry Mass Spectrometry Facility, and the Chemistry Spectroscopic and Analytical Instrumentation Facility. Members of the Bush Lab fabricate new instruments and devices using the resources of the Student Innovation Center. These facilities all provide complementary resources that we use to further our research objectives.
