Biophysical Mass Spectrometry at the University of Washington
Join the Bush Lab
Trainees in the Bush Lab pursue a broad range of projects, from protein biophysics, to analytical chemistry, to physical chemistry, and beyond. This reflects the multidisciplinary nature of our research, which includes techniques such as mass spectrometry, protein characterization, instrument development, and data science. In this environment trainees are exposed to many different ideas and approaches to problem solving, which aids their general development as scientists.
Opportunities are available for a range of projects. All prospective trainees should read our Research Overview.
Prospective trainees are welcome to participate in our weekly group meeting. This can be done in-person or remotely.
PhD Students
Opportunities are available for a range of projects that are primarily focused on the biophysics of proteins and the development of new chemical measurements.

The Bush Lab participates in the UW Post-Baccalaureate Research Education Program (PREP). The goal of the program is to bring underrepresented and disadvantaged students to UW for one year following their graduation with a baccalaureate degree to facilitate their subsequent enrollment into graduate school in the biomedical sciences. Please see the program site for additional information.
Undergraduate Students
There are opportunities for current UW undergraduate students.
There may be opportunities for undergraduate students from other institutions to spend a summer in our lab.
We do not having funding to support postdoctoral researchers at this time. Interested candidates need to have their own funding or apply for a fellowship.Â
