Bio

  • Sam Marionni came to the University of Washington shortly after receiving his B.S. in chemistry from the University of Maryland in 2009. As an undergraduate, Sam worked in the research group of Professor T. Ashton Cropp, investigating the biosynthetic pathway of piericidin in Streptomyces mobaraensis. While at Maryland, Sam held a Howard Hughes Undergraduate Research Fellowship for two years and in his final year received the Greater Washington Institute of Chemists Award. Sam spent his first two years at UW in the research group of Professor Gojko Lalic studying transition metal-catalyzed cross-coupling reactions, resulting in the successful development of a stereoselective, copper-catalyzed synthesis of allenes. In the summer of 2011, Sam joined the Bush group, where he uses ion mobility and native mass spectrometry techniques to investigate the structures of large protein complexes.
